述曰：後持淨前者，後攝於前，有施皆戒；有戒非施，謂施所不攝戒，以後戒持淨前施等，故前不攝後。非持淨於後故，即以狹問寬。順前句答，施狹故也。

The Commentary states: The succeeding upholding and purifying the preceding means that the succeeding includes the preceding: whatever is giving is morality, and there is morality that is not giving, meaning morality not included in giving. Because the succeeding morality upholds and purifies the preceding giving and so on, the preceding does not include the succeeding, for it does not uphold and purify the succeeding; that is, the narrower is asked of the wider. It is answered conforming to the preceding proposition, because giving is narrower.
