The Commentary states: This explains the third line of the verse. Countering the subtle is called crude; countering the light is called heavy. Seeds of the cognitive hindrance are called crude-heaviness (dauṣṭhulya), as well as crude-heavinesses that are not seeds; they are severed ground by ground distinctively. Seeds of the afflictive hindrance called crude-heaviness are only eliminated at the diamond-like [stage]. As for the crude-heavinesses of affliction that are not seeds, they are also severed ground by ground. Here it reveals that due to cultivating non-conceptual knowledge across the ten grounds, upon reaching the diamond-like mind one severs the seeds of affliction, and in the ten grounds and so forth one severs the cognitive hindrance and so forth, which combined together is called severing the two kinds. In terms of ultimate exhaustion, it is solely in the diamond-like [mind]; when the diamond-like [stage] is exhausted, one realizes the fruit of the transformation of the basis.
