The Commentary states: Fascicle eight of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha explains six distinctions: 1. distinction of intentional object, taking the Mahāyāna Dharma as its intentional object; 2. distinction of varieties, which is the distinction among the four concentrations, citing for now the foremost; 3. distinction of antidotes, which refers to the wisdom that apprehends common characteristics, meaning the wisdom that apprehends tathatā, because it swiftly dispels the coarse and heavy obstacles in the ālayavijñāna; 4. distinction of capability, which refers to dwelling in the bliss of dhyāna and taking rebirth as desired; 5. distinction of elicitation, being able to elicit unimpeded supernormal knowledges in all realms; 6. distinction of activities, referring to being able to cause earthquakes and so forth, which are the eighteen transformations, and also being able to elicit the ten difficult practices and so forth, which are the difficult practices undertaken by vow. Although there are six distinctions there, the second distinction is simply the essence of the four concentrations; therefore, omitting the second, there are only the five beginning with the intentional object, as explained in detail there. The esoteric meanings of the six perfections and so forth, as well as the courses of the ten unwholesome actions, are all like this.
