述曰：二乘者亦能斷煩惱障，斷煩惱障是共故，非此所說。彼二乘不能斷所知障，所知障是不共。所以初地無明，但說不染故。世親《攝論》云：又所治障有其十，故立十地別。

The Commentary states: Followers of the two vehicles can also sever the affliction obstacle, and severing the affliction obstacle is shared; therefore, it is not what is discussed here. Those of the two vehicles cannot sever the cognitive obstacle, and the cognitive obstacle is unshared. For this reason, the ignorance of the first ground is said to be merely non-defiled. Vasubandhu's Commentary on the Mahāyānasaṃgraha states: 'Moreover, because the obstacles to be remedied are ten, the ten grounds are distinguished.'
