The Commentary states: Fourth, citing the proof. This meaning is readily understood. The end of fascicle fourteen of the Abhidharmasamuccaya speaks of words such as 'sudden eradication', as explained extensively in the Saṃdhinirmocana, fascicle seventy-eight, and so on. The Bodhisattvabhūmi, the Daśabhūmika, and so forth compare each bhūmi one by one, explaining the differences in merits and wisdom, which cannot be elaborately recounted here. Fascicle eleven of the Daśabhūmika states: 'A bodhisattva of the ninth bhūmi uses the unhindered wisdom of dharmas to know the intrinsic mark of all dharmas; uses the unhindered wisdom of meaning to know the differentiated marks of all dharmas; uses the unhindered wisdom of language to expound all dharmas without confusion; uses the unhindered wisdom of eloquence to expound all dharmas sequentially and without interruption.' Another explanation says: first, knowing that dharmas have no intrinsic nature; second, knowing the marks of arising and ceasing of dharmas; third, knowing the provisional names of dharmas without interrupting the teaching of provisional dharmas; fourth, knowing the teaching of boundless dharmas without destroying them in accordance with provisional names. Another explanation says: first, knowing differences in dharmas; second, knowing differences in meaning; third, expounding the Dharma in accordance with speech and sound; fourth, expounding it in accordance with what is joyfully understood. There are many other such explanations in that text which cannot be cited at length. One should consult fascicle sixty-six of the Yogācārabhūmi, where the different meanings of cultivation should be reconciled here.
