10.332

[The Commentary states:] Where what is obstructed differs, the severing is also distinct. Here, that the seeds of the obstructions lack coarseness and subtlety means they are not of eighty-one grades, but belong to a single category like the ninth grade of Neither-Conceptualization-Nor-Non-Conceptualization. Just as false views that sever the roots of goodness are not without nine grades, so they constitute perfumers. Another explanation: since what is obstructed is the same, there is no sequence in their severing, which is called "lacking coarseness and subtlety." It is not that across the nine grounds they are subsumed into a single grade altogether, as was already explained in detail above under the seventh consciousness. Furthermore, because they only take internal objects—objects of their own ground—as their cognitive objects, and the objects lack coarseness and subtlety and lack multiple grades, they are called a single grade; it is not that across the three realms there is entirely no coarseness or subtlety.
