The Commentary states: This relies on the orthodox teaching that the seventh [consciousness] is pervaded by the taint-free state. 'Equality' is the principle of tathatā; because wisdom takes this as its object, it is said to be equal. In the causal stage, because there is grasping at self, there is a distinction between self and others; now, having no self, self and others are equal. 'Constantly associated with great kindness, compassion, etc.': regarding which natures among the ten equalities this subsumes, kindness, compassion, etc., subsume eight virtues. 'Manifesting according to what sentient beings delight in': manifesting according to what is suitable for the bodhisattvas of the ten grounds. 'Established by non-abiding nirvāṇa': because it takes non-abiding nirvāṇa as its object, this consciousness is constantly associated with compassion and wisdom; nirvāṇa is called that which establishes, and compassion and wisdom are that which is established, hence called 'established'. Alternatively, the tathatā disclosed by this compassion and wisdom is called 'non-abiding', which is the establishment of non-abiding nirvāṇa. The Buddhabhūmi-śāstra says: 'It establishes the non-abiding nirvāṇa of the Buddha-ground.' Being free from further alteration, it is called 'one flavor'; because it is without interruption, it is called 'continuous'. The rest of the text is easy to understand.
