述曰：第五，轉識得智位次。此第八識初說可解。若金剛心無無漏識，有漏已捨，無漏未生，應無能持淨種之識，如前所轉捨中諍。

The Commentary states: Fifth, the sequence of stages in transforming consciousness to obtain wisdom. This initial explanation regarding the eighth consciousness can be understood. If at the diamond-like mind there were no taint-free consciousness, then the tainted having already been abandoned and the taint-free not yet arisen, there would be no consciousness capable of holding pure seeds, as in the dispute over the transformation and abandonment discussed earlier.
