The Commentary states: The Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra says that with respect to all objects it is not deluded; if there were conventional [objects] it did not know, it would not be undeluded. The rest of the text can be known. The word 'bases' refers to the six internal bases; 'objects' refers to the six objects; 'consciousnesses' refers to the six consciousnesses. These eighteen dhātus, or twelve āyatanas—because the six sense organs and six consciousnesses are both named consciousness—and the body as well as the land must definitely be cognized; thus it reconciles 'unknowable'. When it says 'its mode of activity and object are subtle', this means its ākāra and its object. Since the cause is subtle, the fruit is also difficult to know; it is not that it does not cognize the conventional.
