述曰：初解頌文，後諸門分別。初釋四句文即為四段，義乃為三，如判頌意。初中有二：初、正解頌，初句出體；後、問、答。分別解本頌中，初總判；次出體；後別釋。此顯位相也。

The Commentary states: First it explains the verse text, and later distinguishes the various headings. First, interpreting the four lines of text makes four sections, but in meaning there are three, as determined by the verse's intent. In the first part there are two: first, correctly explaining the verse, where the first line presents the essence; second, question and answer. In distinguishing and explaining the root verse, first it determines generally; next it presents the essence; and finally it explains separately. This reveals the marks of the stage.
