The Commentary states: There are three positions in response, and this is the first explanation. The Buddha's body and land transcend subject- and object-discrimination as well as the twenty-one discriminations, and cut off conventional verbal proliferation; they are not subsumed under the aggregates, sensory bases, elements, sentient beings, and so forth, so it cannot be said that 'these are the five faculties' or 'these are the five sensory objects,' and so on. Now the Mahāprajñāpāramitā-sūtra contains many such statements, and many masters of the Three Treatises today give this interpretation; therefore one cannot challenge [this position] on the grounds that the fifteen elements and so forth are sāsrava. When that text says they are sāsrava, it clearly means they are not the Buddha's body. Fascicle 1 of the Buddhabhūmi[-sūtra-śāstra] says that this master represents the third position, and that text also offers no final judgment.
