The Commentary states: The explanation of the second master has two parts: first the essential [body]; then the remaining bodies. The text on the essential [body] has four parts: 1. thesis; 2. citing scriptural authority; 3. resolving contradictions; 4. explanation. "The essential body is originally eternal": the Mahāyānasūtrālaṃkāra speaks of three kinds of eternity, as cited in fascicle seven, etc., of the Buddhabhūmi-śāstra. "Stating that the Buddha's Dharma body has no arising or ceasing": the Buddhabhūmi-śāstra says this is stated in the *Buddhapraśaṃsā-śāstra*; however, fascicle seventy-eight [of the Yogācārabhūmi] and the Saṃdhinirmocana-sūtra also have this statement: the Dharma body has no arising or ceasing, whereas the transformation body has beginning and end. "Stating that it is attained through a cause of realization, not a cause of production": stated in Bodhisattva Vasubandhu's Vajracchedikā-śāstra. "Moreover, stating that the Dharma body is shared in common by all buddhas, etc.": the Buddhabhūmi-śāstra says this is stated in various sūtras and treatises, and it is also stated in the first chapter of the Abhidharmasamuccaya and the cognition chapter of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha.
