The Commentary states: That is, it takes non-greed, the intention associated with it, and the bodily and verbal karmas initiated by them as its substance. The eleventh fascicle of the Abhidharmasamuccaya says: The self-nature of giving is bodily, verbal, and mental karma; however, since these three karmas are the common nature of all pāramitās, it does not mention non-greed, as fascicle thirty-nine extensively explains giving through nine gates. Fascicle Thirty-nine explains the self-nature of giving, stating: Bodhisattvas have no attachment to their own bodies or wealth, are able to give all things that should be given, with intention accompanied by non-greed, and the bodily and verbal karmas capable of giving things initiated thereby. In explaining that text: One interpretation takes only the three karmas, agreeing with the Abhidharmasamuccaya in taking intention accompanied by non-greed without taking non-greed itself. The current interpretation also takes non-greed, agreeing with this treatise's text that only when one is not greedy for wealth and so forth can one give. Since there is no other explanation, the essential natures of the three kinds of giving are all identical.
