述曰：此即第一、離識無別難。汝說：命根非離於識實有；壽、煖及識三法攝故；如煖。煖是色法，前破色中說不離識，故今為喻。不爾，喻中所立不成。此中色不離識言，即通總別，總取一切色為喻亦得，別取煖為喻亦得，故不別言煖，恐失總故。

The Commentary states: This is the first [refutation], the challenge that it is not separate from consciousness. You say: The life faculty does not exist as a real entity apart from consciousness; because it is subsumed under the three dharmas of life span, warmth, and consciousness; just like warmth. Warmth is a material dharma; in the previous refutation of form, it was said not to be separate from consciousness, so it is now used as the example. Otherwise, what is to be established in the example would not be established. Here, the statement that form is not separate from consciousness applies both generally and specifically: taking all form generally as the example is fine, and taking warmth specifically as the example is also fine; therefore warmth is not mentioned separately, for fear of losing the general [meaning].
