The Commentary states: It will be explained extensively in the third fascicle below. The Nyāyānusāra master says: If there is no life faculty, what serves as the substance of the realms, destinies, and types of birth? When dissimilar-category minds and uncontaminated minds arise in the formless realm, and when entering the mindless concentration in the lower two realms, what can sustain the body? For consciousness and warmth are not constant. When entering the mindless state, life span and warmth exist; since the three are one substance, consciousness also exists. When entering the formless state, form is entirely absent; since the three substances are one, should warmth exist? The formless realm rejects warmth and form, so where there is consciousness there is no warmth. The mindless state does not reject subtle mind, which is why there is also consciousness; this meaning should be considered.
