述曰：第五段有三：第一、如體本有難。彼部計用離體外無，故為此難，令用同體亦本來有。彼若救言：以待因緣，用不頓起；因謂同類因等，緣謂餘三緣。次子段第二、因非本有難，論主答破。

The Commentary states: The fifth section has three sub-clauses: First is the objection that [their functions] would be originally existent like their substances. Because that school maintains that function does not exist apart from substance, this objection is made, demanding that function, being identical with substance, would also be originally existent. If they rescue by saying: 'Because they depend on causes and conditions, their functions do not arise all at once'—causes meaning homogeneous causes and the like, and conditions meaning the other three conditions—then in the second sub-clause, the objection that the causes are not originally existent, the author of the treatise replies and refutes it.
