述曰：總結相假遮外實法。言四相者，帶數釋名。相者相狀，標印名相，由此標法知是有為。諸門分別如餘處說。

The Commentary states: This summarily concludes that the characteristics are conventional, refuting the external view of real phenomena. The phrase "four characteristics" is an exegesis compounded with a numeral (dvigu). "Characteristic" means mark; that which signs or seals is called a characteristic, and by this mark phenomena are known to be conditioned. The various categorical analyses are as explained elsewhere.
