The Commentary states: Below, the specific elucidation has three parts: first, showing that it does not rely on the real, but operates solely based on the common characteristic (sāmānyalakṣaṇa). That is, this 'real entity' does not refer to a real substance external to the mind being called 'real'; rather, it is just the self-characteristic of dharmas apprehended by the mind, which words cannot reach and conventional cognition cannot grasp as an object, that is called 'real'. This is known solely by direct perception (pratyakṣa), its nature being free from verbal expression and conceptual discrimination of cognition. This brings out that the real substance is beyond the reach of cognition and designation.
