答：此中果變，謂有緣法能變現義，故種子非。若體是果而能轉變，種子亦是。今論但說有八識生現種種相，故知但說現行果法名果能變，由以變現名能變故，種子但以轉變名變。三熏習等，下自當說。

Answer: Here, fruitional transformation means the sense that phenomena having cognitive objects are able to manifest transformations; therefore seeds are not. If it were that its substance is a fruit and it is able to change, seeds would also be so. Now the treatise states only that there are eight consciousnesses arising and manifesting various aspects; hence we know that it only states that active fruitional phenomena are called fruitional transformation. Because manifesting transformation is called transforming, seeds are called transformation merely in the sense of changing. The three kinds of perfuming and so forth will naturally be explained below.
