The Commentary states: In the discussion of causal transformation above, it was said: since maturation latencies are seeds, one does not yet know what they produce. How do they produce fruits? What fruits are they able to give rise to? Now it is shown that they are produced by decisive condition and do not produce directly. That which is produced as true maturation is only the eighth consciousness. Because things produced by decisive condition are not of the same nature, and only the eighth consciousness is the overall fruit, it is the primary ruler of fruits, and other fruits are only then produced. Because the primary ruler leads and produces them, and because strong, superior karma leads the overall fruit, other particular, weaker karmas are only then able to produce fruits. In terms of its superior karma, it is termed "leading," because it leads other karmas to arise; the retribution is also termed "leading," because it leads other fruits. Karma is superior, so it is called "leading"; the fruit is uninterrupted, so it is said to "continue constantly." Because it continues constantly and is the leading fruit, it is given the name of "maturation fruit," and other dharmas are likewise.
