述曰：此簡他宗，破經部譬喻師等，如五十一說。彼計：色根中有心、心所等及四大種種子：心、心所中有色根種子等，以於有色、無色界生時，互能持種故，及假類能持等，如下十證自當廣破。今量云：彼不能持一切種子；非第八識故；如外色等。返顯第八能執持義，然執持義，下執受中自當廣說。

The Commentary states: This eliminates other schools, refuting the Sautrāntika Dārṣṭāntikas and others, as stated in the fifty-first [fascicle of the Yogācārabhūmi]. They posit: within the material faculties exist the seeds of mind, mental factors, and the four great elements; within the mind and mental factors exist the seeds of the material faculties, and so on, because when born in the realm of form or the formless realm, they can mutually uphold seeds; as well as the conceptual categories being able to uphold, and so forth. These will naturally be refuted in detail below in the ten proofs. Now a syllogism is stated: 'Those [other phenomena] cannot uphold all seeds; because they are not the eighth consciousness; like external forms and so forth.' This conversely demonstrates the sense in which the eighth is able to uphold them. However, the meaning of upholding will naturally be explained in detail below under 'appropriation' (upādāna).
