述曰：《攝論》第二，無著云：「外或無熏習，非內種應知，聞等熏習無，果生非道理。」故無內種不由熏有，外種之中，華熏苣勝香氣是有。從炭、牛糞、毛生苣勝、青蓮華根及蒲，非彼俱生、俱滅，互相重習，苣勝等生，名為「外種或無熏習」。

The Commentary states: In the second fascicle of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha, Asaṅga states: 'External seeds may lack perfuming, but internal seeds, it should be known, are not so; without the perfuming of hearing and so forth, it is illogical for a fruit to arise.' Therefore, there are no internal seeds that do not exist through perfuming. Among external seeds, the fragrance of flowers perfuming sesame seeds is existent. But sesame growing from charcoal, cow dung, or hairs, or blue lotus roots and rushes—these do not arise from co-arising and co-ceasing mutual repeated perfuming, yet sesame and so forth arise; this is called 'external seeds are sometimes without perfuming'.
