述曰：唯種與現實名因緣，除此所餘，因緣無故，不以現行七識望第八現為因也，但取種子望後為因。又此中望體，因緣體盡，若望果別，亦有種子生於種子，豈非因緣？由是此中但約體說，又說不盡，不說無漏故。

The Commentary states: Only seeds and actualities are truly named cause and condition; apart from these, cause and condition does not exist. The actual seventh consciousness is not taken as a cause with respect to the actual eighth, but rather seeds are taken as causes with respect to subsequent [actualities]. Furthermore, here, with respect to substance, the substance of cause and condition is exhausted; but with respect to distinctions of effects, there is also seeds generating seeds—how could that not be cause and condition? Therefore, here it is spoken of only in terms of substance, and moreover it does not exhaust all cases, since untainted dharmas are not mentioned.
