述曰：對治識故，體性異故，不相順故，故非所緣。四分之中，依自體分，非即是識自體分收，性相乖故。若爾，本識既不變緣，何名唯識？

The Commentary states: Because they are the antidote to this consciousness, because their essential nature is different, and because they do not conform [with it], they are not cognitive objects. Among the four divisions, they rely on the svasaṃvittibhāga, but are not subsumed within the svasaṃvittibhāga of consciousness itself, because their natures and characteristics are incompatible. If so, since the fundamental consciousness neither transforms nor cognizes them, how is it vijñapti-mātra?
