述曰：若第八緣實，無為者，無為無用，此未證故；若似無為，非實無為，故不變也。論說「等」言，又無為中有「等」字故，亦辨假法不相應行，即前答心及心所法，今解無為、不相應行，亦無有過。此解是本，故前問中何故此識不能變似心心所等？既言「等」者，故取假法及與無為。

The Commentary states: If the eighth were to cognize real unconditioned dharmas, unconditioned dharmas lack functional efficacy, and this [consciousness] has not yet realized them; if they are simulated unconditioned dharmas, they are not real unconditioned dharmas, and therefore it does not transform them. The treatise says 'etc.,' and because there is the word 'etc.' among unconditioned dharmas, it also explains nominal dharmas, the citta-viprayukta-saṃskāras; that is, the previous answer concerned mind and mental factors, and now explaining unconditioned dharmas and citta-viprayukta-saṃskāras is also without fault. This explanation is the principal one; thus, in the previous question, why can this consciousness not transform simulated mind, mental factors, etc.? Since it said 'etc.,' it encompasses nominal dharmas and unconditioned dharmas.
