The Commentary states: This is because the substance of volition is the master and is predominant. First, volition is the master of the aggregate of conditioning factors (saṃskāra-skandha); thus the beginning of the Abhidharmasamuccaya states: 'What is the aggregate of conditioning factors? It refers to the six bodies of volition,' and it explains itself that this is because it is the leader. Second, volition is predominant in creating various karmas; by adducing volition, it subsumes the remaining factors, rather than uniquely grasping volition alone. Therefore, all mental factors arise dependent on contact. Question: If so, why do the Abhidharmasamuccaya and the first chapter of the Prakaraṇāryavācā on the five aggregates state that its activity is serving as the basis of feeling?
