3.40

述曰：即大自在為因，生一切果等皆是此計，果應無別，以因一故。果既有異，因亦應殊，故非一因生一切果。

The Commentary states: Namely, regarding Maheśvara as the cause that produces all fruits and so forth are all part of this adherence. The fruits would have to be undifferentiated, because the cause is one. Since the fruits are distinct, the causes must also be different; therefore, a single cause does not produce all fruits.
