3.425

述曰:若言自緣,名領自性,違汝自執,不自證故。彼計心等不能自緣,故說自緣,便違自失。故次第九彼復救曰:言自領者,非謂自緣,不拾受自相,名自性受故。故次第十論主復非。

The Commentary states: If you say that self-cognition is called 'experiencing intrinsic nature', this contradicts your own tenets, because there is no self-verification (svasaṃvedana). Their school holds that mind and so forth cannot cognize themselves; therefore, saying that it cognizes itself directly commits an error against their own tenets. Thus, ninth, they rescue [their position] again, saying: Calling it 'self-experiencing' does not mean self-cognition; because it does not abandon the self-characteristic of sensation, it is called 'sensation of intrinsic nature'. Therefore, tenth, the author of the treatise rejects it again.
