述曰：顯我不緣苦、樂二受，非一類故，故唯捨俱；生善、惡趣，餘受轉故，第三復次也。由前三義，故唯捨俱，勘諸經論，唯初復次五義之中第四義解。上來依理解頌文訖，自下依義釋外妨難。

The Commentary states: This shows that the self does not take the two feelings of pain and pleasure as objects, because they are not of a single category; hence it is conjoined solely with equanimity. When born into wholesome and unwholesome destinies, the remaining feelings shift; this is the third alternative explanation. Due to the previous three meanings, it is conjoined solely with equanimity; on examining the various sūtras and treatises, it is only the fourth meaning among the five meanings in the first alternative explanation that explains it. Up to this point, the verse has been explained according to reason; next below, external objections are resolved according to meaning.
