述曰：若但緣本識相分之種，自不須變，即無親所緣緣，自無相分故，便非唯識，心外取故。若託彼變，但是疎緣，不於觸等之上現影像故。

The Commentary states: If they merely took the seeds of the nimittabhāga of the root consciousness as cognitive objects without having to transform themselves, there would be no immediate objective condition, as they would lack their own nimittabhāga; then it would not be consciousness-only (vijñapti-mātra), because it would grasp outside the mind. If they relied on that [consciousness's] transformation, it would merely be a remote condition (dūra-pratyaya), not manifesting a reflected image upon contact and so forth.
