述曰：此第二正答所問，於中有三，初解本頌；次破外執；後勸歸信。初中有三，初解法；次解喻；後總結。解法中有二，先舉所明因果之法；後廣解釋，此即初也。舉頌二字，正答前問，經部師等持種色、心，無色無心有時斷滅；僧佉自性，雖為法種，仍體是常。為簡彼宗，言非常、斷。恒義如何？

The Commentary states: This second [part] directly answers what was asked. Within this there are three parts: first, explaining the root verse; next, refuting external attachments; and last, exhorting one to return to faith. Within the first there are three parts: first, explaining the Dharma; next, explaining the metaphor; and last, the general conclusion. Within explaining the Dharma there are two parts: first, presenting the Dharma of cause and effect to be clarified; and next, explaining it extensively. This is the first. Adducing the two words of the verse directly answers the previous question. Masters of the Sautrāntika and others hold that rūpa and citta sustain seeds, yet [in the stages of] immateriality or mindlessness they are sometimes cut off; the prakṛti of the Sāṃkhya, although the seed of all phenomena, is still permanent in substance. In order to exclude those tenets, [the Treatise] says "neither permanent nor discontinuous." What is the meaning of "constantly"?
