The Commentary states: This reveals the meaning of being perfumable; being unable to receive perfuming would be the fault. The fault of not being perfumed by evolving consciousnesses to form seeds is that a permanent ālaya would not receive perfuming, because it is permanent, like space. If it did not receive perfuming, there would be no distinction between saṃsāra and nirvāṇa. The above explains "turning." Summing up the explanation of the two words "constantly" and "turning" in the verse, the four criteria for receiving perfuming are fully complete: first, indeterminate; second, firm; third, perfumable—which is "not permanent or one"; fourth, concordant—which is "can be perfumed by consciousness."
