述曰：下破有七，今總非云：「彼虛言等」。「何容一念而有二時」，此第一難。念者，剎那之異名；時者，生滅之兩位。剎那迅速即有前後，極微至小應有二分。

The Commentary states: Below, there are seven refutations; now, it generally rejects it, saying: "Their statement is empty talk, etc." "How can a single thought-moment contain two temporal positions?": this is the first objection. "Thought-moment" (nīan) is an alternative name for a kṣaṇa; "temporal positions" refers to the two states of arising and ceasing. If a rapid kṣaṇa already has a prior and a subsequent, then the smallest atomic part should have two spatial divisions.
