述曰：此四因中，初因簡解行地已前，十地菩薩能伏煩惱，畢竟不行，非第七識，今通七識。第二因簡前六地，第三因簡第七地，第四因簡一切地。由四因故，直往菩薩八地已去方名不退，捨賴耶名。

The Commentary states: Among these four causes, the first cause excludes those prior to the stage of resolute conduct; the bodhisattvas of the ten stages are able to suppress defilements so that they never arise, which is not just the seventh consciousness, but now applies to all seven consciousnesses. The second cause excludes the first six stages; the third cause excludes the seventh stage; the fourth cause excludes all [lower] stages. Owing to these four causes, directly proceeding bodhisattvas from the eighth stage onward are only then called non-retrogressing, and abandon the name ālaya.
