The Commentary states: Within this there are three parts: 1. recounting the sūtra; 2. explaining the meaning; 3. general conclusion. This is the first text. From here down, the text explaining the meaning has three parts: 1. explaining that those four names are precisely the eighth consciousness; 2. from 'namely, born...' downward, questioning why the rest are not this; 3. from 'pṛthagjanas and those in training' downward, revealing the principle that the locus to which grasping attachment arises must be the ālaya. What is spoken of here is the first text. The four *Āgamas* are: 1. named *Ekottarika*; 2. named *Madhyama*; 3. named *Dīrgha*; 4. named *Saṃyukta*. Elucidating dharmas increasing from one dharma up to a hundred dharmas is named *Ekottarika*; elucidating meaning neither concisely nor extensively is named *Madhyama*; if it elucidates factual matters extensively in words, it is called *Dīrgha*; elucidating various miscellaneous matters is named *Saṃyukta*. In the *Ekottarikāgama*, it is called ālaya.
