The Commentary states: From here downward is the first part questioning why the rest are not this. The text has seven [items], for seven kinds are not what is cherished and attached to. 'Exclusively painful states' refers to the places of extreme suffering in the three wretched realms. Vasubandhu says that in those three places there is at times the arising of pleasure as an outflow-fruit (*niṣyanda-phala*). Here it is stated that altogether it is not pleasure, because those are states of extreme suffering. Repulsed by and averse to body and mind, one thinks: 'When shall I abandon this life, this category, this body and mind?' 'This nikāya-sabhāga' is precisely the aggregate of mental formations, because one is repulsed generally by the five aggregates.
