述曰：無第八識，如經持種心不應有故，即無此識理爽前經。隨諸部釋，雖下自有簡，然於此中，總敘諸部釋此經。下方次第別難，謂諸部中經部強勝，故須先破。

The Commentary states: Without the eighth consciousness, a citta that holds seeds as stated in the sūtra should not exist; thus, lacking this consciousness violates the reasoning of the preceding sūtra. As for the explanations of the various schools, although distinctions are drawn below, here we provide a general account of the explanations of this sūtra by various schools. Below, we refute them one by one in sequence; among the schools, the Sautrāntika is the most formidable, and therefore must be refuted first.
