The Commentary states: Below is the third [section], refuting mental factors (caitasika). There are eight inferences, because four reasons each establish two probanda as appropriate. The inference says: These cannot hold seeds, nor do they receive perfuming; because they have interruptions, and because they arise intermittently; like the aforementioned consciousnesses. The probandum is placed after so that it applies throughout the preceding inferences. Furthermore, the thesis is as before; [Reasons:] because they are not autonomous, and because they are not of the nature of citta; Example: like lightning, and so forth. Here there are only examples for the first two reasons; since mind has already been negated as being able to be perfumed, it can serve as an example. The latter two reasons and examples are omitted without discussion because they were stated before. It is not that the six consciousnesses are non-autonomous and so on, so there should be a separate example.
