4.243

述曰：於中有三：一、敘宗；二、申難；三、破救。此初也。謂色望色，心等望心。自類前後，前為後因。因義既成，故先所說證第八識有不成也。

The Commentary states: In this, there are three parts: first, recounting the doctrine; second, stating the challenge; third, refuting their salvage. This is the first. That is, form in relation to form, mind and so forth in relation to mind: sequentially within their own category, the earlier is the cause for the later. Since the meaning of cause is already established, the proof previously stated for the existence of the eighth consciousness fails to be established.
