The Commentary states: Since there is no perfuming, how could the earlier and later serve as seeds? If they had previously perfumed each other within their own category and the seed of the later existed within the earlier moment, the earlier could give rise to the later; but since there is no perfuming, how could it be the cause? Asvabhāva's *Mahāyānasaṃgraha[-upanibandhana]* says: Two moments do not exist simultaneously, and therefore perfuming cannot obtain, as already refuted above. The syllogism is: The earlier mind and so forth do not serve as seeds for the later mind and so forth; because there is no perfuming; just as with potsherds and rubble.
