述曰：此第二難。《攝論》云：謂生無色色久時斷，後生下界色應不生，彼說過去現無體故。滅盡定等心斷亦然，前久已無，應非後種，因則不遍。

The Commentary states: This is the second challenge. The *Mahāyānasaṃgraha* says: When one is born into the formless realm, form is interrupted for a long time; when one is subsequently born into a lower realm, form should not arise, because they claim that the past does not have present substance. When mind is interrupted in the attainment of cessation (nirodhasamāpatti) and so forth, it is likewise so: what has long since ceased to exist in the past should not be the seed for the later, and thus the cause would not be pervasive.
