述曰：雖第八識能與末那為俱有依、種子依、根，及為所緣，今者但取俱有之依。言與末那為所依止，第六意識依之得轉。又第八識能與諸法為本依止故，末那為依，第六識轉，如眼根等增上緣根。六別依七，七依第八，諸宗不許，故應立量。

The Commentary states: Although the eighth consciousness can serve as the co-nascent support, seed support, faculty, and intentional object for manas, now it takes only the co-nascent support. Saying that it serves as support for manas, the sixth mental consciousness operates in dependence on it. Furthermore, because the eighth consciousness can serve as the fundamental support for all phenomena, with manas as support, the sixth consciousness operates, like the eye faculty and the rest, which are faculties as predominant conditions. That the sixth separately relies on the seventh, and the seventh relies on the eighth, is not accepted by the various schools; therefore an inference should be formulated.
