述曰：識不執處即是非情，引果所攝外器之類。雖第八識變而亦緣，而不執受，如髮髮等，故此識有。上來或初引教共諍，別破異部；二、引事為難；三、總結上文。

The Commentary states: Where consciousness does not appropriate is precisely non-sentient, of the class of external vessels subsumed under the fruit of leading [karma]. Although the eighth consciousness transforms and also conditions it, it does not appropriate it, like hair, down, and the like; therefore this consciousness exists. Heretofore: first, citing teachings to engage in mutual dispute and separately refuting divergent schools; second, citing empirical facts to pose challenges; third, summarizing the above text.
