The Commentary states: Setting forth our own school has four parts: first, identifying the substance; second, categorical subsumption; third, explaining the meaning; fourth, distinguishing the realm. This identifies the substance, first presenting the characteristics of the nutriment. Here, 'morsel' means segmented portions: smell, taste, and touch have transformation and decay as their characteristic, because at the time of transformation and decay they act as the characteristic of food. Previously it was called 'ball food' (kavaḍīkārāhāra), saying it could be gathered into balls; this statement is incorrect, because liquids such as water cannot be made into balls. One can only say: because it is taken portion by portion, it is called morsel food. What is its essential nature?
