述曰：如六十六、〈攝事分〉中，皆以觸數為此食體。由有漏觸纔觸境時，攝受喜、樂能為食事。謂能資養生長喜、樂、捨受，令增攝益於身故名為食。八識俱觸，皆是食耶？

The Commentary states: As in fascicle sixty-six and the 'Vastu-saṃgrahaṇī', both take the mental factor of contact as the substance of this nutriment. Because contaminated contact, the moment it contacts an object, takes in joy and pleasure, it can perform the function of food. That is, being able to nourish, produce, and grow feelings of joy, pleasure, and equanimity, causing them to increase and benefit the body, it is called food. Is the contact concomitant with all eight consciousnesses food?
