述曰：第一難。此言能持種子識者，以經部師許有種故說識能持。無本識故後識無種，應不得生。

The Commentary states: The first objection. This refers to the consciousness capable of holding seeds, because the Sautrāntikas accept that seeds exist, so they say that consciousness can hold them. Because there is no fundamental consciousness, the subsequent consciousness would lack seeds and should not be able to arise.
