The Commentary states: In the first [part], refuting that there is mind, the text is divided into three: first, objecting to the contradiction with its name; next, objecting to the contradiction with reasoning; finally, concluding the intended meaning. This is the first. This takes up their claim and rejects it as unreasonable, because this attainment is also called a mindless attainment. Therefore we know that there cannot be a sixth consciousness; comparing this with the two translations of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha and the Karmasiddhi-prakaraṇa, there is no disagreement in meaning. But they defend themselves, saying: "Just as it is named a mindless attainment yet your fundamental consciousness is not absent, now that it is named a mindless attainment, what prevents the mental consciousness from existing?" The explanation is: In our view it is called a mindless attainment because coarse and unstable consciousnesses are absent, which means that all six consciousnesses are absent. In your view of a mindless attainment, what do you say is absent?
