述曰：此牒計非。經部救言：無斷果體但由道力後惑不生，即立斷果，何須本識持煩惱種立實斷果？論主難云：則初道起應成無學。

The Commentary states: This takes up their hypothesis and shows it to be incorrect. The Sautrāntikas attempt to save their position, saying: 'There is no substantial entity of the fruition of abandonment; merely by the power of the path, subsequent defilements do not arise, and it is on that basis that the fruition of abandonment is posited. What need is there for the root consciousness to sustain the seeds of defilement to establish a real fruition of abandonment?' The author of the Treatise challenges them: Then upon the arising of the initial path, one should become an aśaikṣa.
