述曰：諸聖教中恐此第七濫彼第六，於此第七但立意名而不言識。第一義也。
The Commentary states: For fear that in the holy teachings this seventh consciousness would be confused with that sixth, for this seventh consciousness only the name *manas* is established, and it is not called "consciousness." This is the first explanation.
