4.83

述曰：下釋有三：初、合解上二句；次、解第三句；後、解第四句。此初也，取初句由字、次句識、及一切種言，加此本具三字，故言「由此本識具諸種子」。然始却取第一句中攝藏之上加「故能」二字；「諸法」二字中加「雜染」字，故「能攝藏諸雜染法」。

[The Commentary states:] The following explanation has three parts: first, it combines and explains the upper two lines; next, it explains the third line; and finally, it explains the fourth line. This is the first part: taking the word "because" from the first line, the word "consciousness" and the phrase "all seeds" from the second line, and adding the three words "this root possesses," it states: "Because this root consciousness possesses all seeds." Then, going back to take "stores" from the first line, it adds the two words "can thus" before it; and within the two words "all phenomena" it adds the word "defiled," thus yielding "it can store all defiled factors."
